The Melting Pot Cheese Fondue

This weekend was my husband’s birthday! For once, I managed to plan something nice and even surprise him. Well, sort of surprise him. I managed to keep our dinner date plans secret until the day of his birthday! We had a babysitter for the evening and got to get out without the baby! It was awesome!

We had a fabulous dinner at The Melting Pot. It’s a fondue restaurant and is absolutely delicious. You can go in for just cheese fondue or dessert, but we would never do just that. Go big or go home – and that is exactly what we did! First off, if you ever go, they have a fabulous area called “Lovers Lane.” You have to make a reservation to sit in this area because it books up. You get a booth for two that is in a quieter and more secluded part of the restaurant. It was really romantic. We had the cheese fondue, followed by salad, then the main entree (lots of different seasoned meats that you cook at the table in your choice of cooking juices – we did the coq au vin), and finally dessert – chocolate fondue – O.M.G.! Fabulous! We could barely walk out of there. It’s a bit pricey and ran us about $110 with 20% gratuity. The “Big Night Out” (which is what we ordered) runs about $90/couple. We hadn’t been in a few years and it was so nice to get out, just the two of us. No whining, no food throwing, no crying. Fab-u-lous!

I totally paid for it later on seeing as how the amount of fat I ate certainly surpassed the 20g of fat that I’m limited to on the Alli plan. Oops. Quick pit stop before heading off to bowling!

If you haven’t ever tried Groupon, I highly recommend it. You buy a coupon in advance (used as a gift certificate) and get a really deep discount on a local area deal. For $5, we got two strings of bowling and a shoe rental, per person. It was an awesome deal! So after dinner, we got to go bowling for the first time in a long time. Since we moved to our town, we’ve been saying that we were going to check out the local bowling alley and never had. We’ve been here almost 10 years! So nice to finally check it out…and go out without the baby!

A great night all around!
